Provider notes
Energy. Site plan for 'Project Phoenix' includes a 70-acre natural gas power generation pad serving the campus; roughly 400 of the 593 acres would be graded. A campus MW figure was not disclosed in this source.
Water. Aligned states zero-water operational cooling via a closed-loop recycling system; the campus is pursuing Green Globes certification.
Community. Local officials and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro have criticized the pace and secrecy of the Shippingport-area data center buildout, and community groups have organized against nearby proposed data centers citing noise and environmental concerns; a nonprofit (Environmental Health Project) op-ed warned of health and financial burdens. A Shippingport resident and the Beaver County Corporation for Economic Development president voiced support/openness to the project (with caveats about energy costs), and reporting noted comparatively little organized public opposition to date.
What the source record says
Two natural-gas-powered buildings in a 660-acre industrial park; construction potentially starting later 2026.
Any MW value is reproduced as source-reported context. Its measurement boundary is not established consistently enough for comparison. Unknown is not zero.
Status history supplied by the source
- 2026 · source-reported proposed
- 2026-08-17 · source-reported permitted
Conditional use largely granted. On January 28, 2026 Shippingport Borough Council approved most of Aligned's conditional use permit and related modifications for the campus ('Project Phoenix') — three data center buildings of 672,924, 638,000 and 638,000 sq ft plus a 147,000 sq ft warehouse/office building, on a 593-acre site of which roughly 400 acres would be graded, alongside a 70-acre natural gas power generation pad. Requested variances covered building height (45 ft to ~65 ft), clearing up to 75% of woodland, 24-hour construction noise, and a 65 dB noise limit measured at the nearest residence. PARTIAL: two noise-related items remain to be voted on, and mass grading, NPDES, stormwater and emergency management permits are filed but not yet issued.
- 2026-09-12 · source-reported under construction
Aligned Data Centers broke ground on the 2 GW 'Project Phoenix' campus in Shippingport on September 10, 2026, moving the site from permitted to under construction.
