Provider notes
Energy. Large Power Contract Service (LPCS) tariff; Microsoft funds all grid infrastructure upgrades without raising residential rates. Hydrogen fuel cell pilot (Caterpillar) tested 48-hour backup power. Commitment to carbon-free energy matching fossil fuel consumption.
Community. Microsoft committed $68M to off-site infrastructure (roads, storm sewers, trails, water). Will not accept local property tax incentives. Contributed $11M to Laramie County tax base in 2025. Operating in Cheyenne since 2012.
These reviews flag conflicting scope, inconsistent source text or support that has not been established. A withheld value may appear in the explanation, but is not displayed as an established field. The upstream row remains attributed under Sources.
- Cooling: Previously held pending provider-field review. The concern has not been resolved by an independent source review for this captured edition; the field remains withheld.
What the source record says
Described by Microsoft as a 'multi-gigawatt multi-decade ecosystem.' The 400 MW initial-target figure that appeared in the prior record was NOT found in either cited source and has been removed pending a citable source (neither the Microsoft newsroom announcement nor Cowboy State Daily mentions a specific MW figure). Separate from existing Cheyenne campus (since 2012) and the HR Ranch Road construction underway 2025-2026. Coordinates approximate for Bison Business Park / SE Cheyenne area.
Any MW value is reproduced as source-reported context. Its measurement boundary is not established consistently enough for comparison. Unknown is not zero.
Status history supplied by the source
- 2026-04 · source-reported proposed
Microsoft announced intent to purchase 3,200 acres: 200 acres at Bison Business Park on Wapiti Trail + 3,000 acres in Southeast Cheyenne, tripling Wyoming footprint
- 2026-07-22 · source-reported permitted
Microsoft closed on its ~3,460-acre land purchase (June 26, 2026) and the Cheyenne City Council approved annexation and zoning for the expansion parcel on a 6-3 vote (July 13-14, 2026), clearing the land-use path for the campus; construction has not been reported as begun on this parcel yet. Note: a local referendum petition against the annexation was launched July 20, 2026, so this approval could still be contested.
