This is a source-attributed discovery row. It can help you find a place and its citations; it is not a DataCenterData finding that the facility is distinct or currently operating.
Reported geography
Source-reported location for Microsoft El Mirage Data Center Campus.
Approximate source coordinates; this is not a parcel claim. Nearby source points are combined into one accessible target that opens this exact map scope. View these exact rows on the interactive map →

The underlying provider record is retained. These notes add source-attributed context and flag conflicts; any withheld value is explained separately. They do not certify current operation.
- status history (provider entry dated 2024-12): This provider entry records a planning approval for one building (PHX-83) as "under construction". The cited report says PHX-81 and PHX-82 were then under construction, so the label may describe other buildings on the campus rather than PHX-83.
Reported details
Source-reported by Compute Atlas; not independently verified by DataCenterData. Provider wording is kept; long provider notes are shortened and marked …; unknown is not zero; none of these values is totaled, ranked or compared.

Provider notes
Energy. On-site APS substation serves existing campus; power extended to new buildings
Water. Microsoft's Arizona datacenters use adiabatic cooling - zero water for cooling more than half the year (outside air below 85F), switching to evaporative ('swamp-cooler'-style) above 85F; Microsoft and Gila River Water Storage replenish Phoenix-AMA groundwater with long-term storage credits dedicated to El Mirage and Goodyear. No El Mirage-specific water-use (MGD) figure is published.
Community. El Mirage Planning & Zoning recommended the PHX-83 expansion 4-0 and the City Council approved the site-plan amendment (2024); Microsoft's Datacenter Community Pledge commits to not raising residents' electricity prices, replenishing more water than it uses, local jobs, and tax base. Luke AFB flagged a bird-strike mitigation note on cooling ponds. No organized opposition found.
These reviews flag conflicting scope, inconsistent source text or support that has not been established. A withheld value may appear in the explanation, but is not displayed as an established field. The upstream row remains attributed under Sources.
- Announced investment: The source note identifies $258 million as land-purchase cost only, not campus investment.
What the source record says
investmentUsd is land-purchase cost only; total campus investment is higher. PHX-83 is the fifth building on existing El Mirage campus. Coordinates are El Mirage city centroid; site is at SE corner of Dysart Rd and Olive Ave. Arizona's Sec. 41-1519 sales/use-tax exemption applies by statute but no campus-specific certified award was found; published job figures cover the combined West Valley (El Mirage/Goodyear) campus, not El Mirage alone.
Any MW value is reproduced as source-reported context. Its measurement boundary is not established consistently enough for comparison. Unknown is not zero.
Status history supplied by the source
- 2024-10 · source-reported proposed
Microsoft purchased 283 acres in two cash transactions totaling $258M near Dysart Rd and Northern Pkwy (LogistiCenter at Copperwing); adds to 150 existing acres
- 2024-12 · source-reported under construction
Fifth data center building (PHX-83, 245,500 sq ft, 5 data halls) received planning approval at El Mirage City Council December 2024
- 2026-08 · source-reported operational
Microsoft's own Greater Phoenix community page describes El Mirage as an operating datacenter ("Microsoft operates datacenters in El Mirage and Goodyear"); the source does not disclose an in-service date, so this event is dated to confirmation.
