Provider notes
Energy. Google signed a contract with MidAmerican Energy for up to 407 MW of wind energy (tracked via RECs from MidAmerican's Wind VIII program) specifically to supply the Council Bluffs data center campus, one of Google's largest renewable commitments at the time.
Water. Google's per-site disclosure for 2024 shows the Council Bluffs data center consumed 1 billion gallons of water that year - the most of any Google data center - which averages about 2.74 MGD. Reported by The Current (26 Aug 2025) from Google's environmental-report site-level figures. This is reported CONSUMPTION, not withdrawal; withdrawal is higher. By contrast Google's air-cooled sites disclose far less: Pflugerville, TX at 10,000 gallons and Storey County, NV at 1.5 million gallons for the same year, which is consistent with Council Bluffs being water-cooled.
These reviews flag conflicting scope, inconsistent source text or support that has not been established. A withheld value may appear in the explanation, but is not displayed as an established field. The upstream row remains attributed under Sources.
- Cooling: Previously held pending provider-field review. The concern has not been resolved by an independent source review for this captured edition; the field remains withheld.
What the source record says
Google's flagship Iowa data center in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County — operational since 2007, heavily expanded across multiple buildings (the Southlands campus on Bunge Ave among them). Distinct from Google's tracked Cedar Rapids campus and from the separate proposed Google/Tenaska Nebraska project. Per Google's own location page, Google has invested $20B+ across Iowa since 2007 (Council Bluffs + Cedar Rapids combined — not a site-specific figure). No site-specific IT-load MW is disclosed. Coordinates are an approximate geocode of a disclosed campus address; a county-parcel pass could upgrade precision to exact.
Any MW value is reproduced as source-reported context. Its measurement boundary is not established consistently enough for comparison. Unknown is not zero.
Status history supplied by the source

State or local registry record
What a state or local government record says naming this company in this city (no street is given in the record). The record is cited, not republished. It does not establish that a data center is operating, its capacity, or its owner or operator unless the record says that role. It is not added to the counts on this page.
Matched by name and city only. The government record names Google, Inc. in Council Bluffs and gives no street. It is shown here because this is the only published record with that name in that city; it may concern another site of the same company there.

What this record does not establish
- That a permit, certification, tax status, or application means an operating data center.
- Current IT capacity, utility load, or generation capacity.
- Who operates the site. A company named in the record is not the operator unless the record says so.
- Who owns the site.
- Cooling redundancy. Mentioned equipment is not a design rating.
- Whether the record covers one building, a campus, or a suite, beyond the unit label the record itself uses.
