Scope
Nodal Protocol Revision Request 1308 adds the defined term Large Computational Load to the ERCOT Protocols: a Large Load in which 50% or more of the demand at the site is power-electronic computational load, such as data centers and cryptocurrency mining facilities. It was approved by the Public Utility Commission on 9 July 2026 and is effective 1 August 2026. The definition itself imposes no requirement; the ride-through requirements that use it are in NOGRR 282.

Summary
ERCOT Nodal Protocol Revision Request 1308 defines a Large Computational Load as a Large Load (75 MW or more at a site) in which at least half of the demand is power-electronic computational load, such as data centers and cryptocurrency mining facilities. The Public Utility Commission approved it on 9 July 2026 in Project No. 54445 and it took effect on 1 August 2026. The definition distinguishes this load type so that specific rules, such as the ride-through requirements in NOGRR 282, can apply to it.
What this does not establish
- The definition text was read in ERCOT's PUCT report document for NPRR 1308 (a Word file); its redline shows the earlier term Large Electronic Load being replaced.
- The definition names data centers as examples of computational load; whether a particular site meets the 50% test is not established here.
- The Large Load threshold (75 MW at a site) comes from the same redline's existing definition, not from a new rule in this revision.

Relationships
Supersession means a later instrument replaces the earlier legal effect. Repeal links identify the repeal instrument and the measure it ends. A later implementation or related letter is not treated as a replacement unless the record says so.
