Summary

Prince George's County zoning bill CB-085-2026 would permit qualified data centers in certain rural, agricultural and residential zones under added requirements, and would repeal the detailed site plan exemption for sites under 200 acres. It was presented and referred to committee on 1 September 2026, and on 21 September 2026 the committee voted to hold it indefinitely. The county record shows Held in Committee and no effective date as of 3 November 2026. It remains a proposal and changes no zoning rule.

Scope

Prince George's County Council Bill CB-085-2026 (Draft 1), a zoning bill, would set added requirements for qualified data centers in the AR, RE and RR zones, including minimum sites of 150, 50 and 25 acres, a site with existing high voltage lines that is being repurposed from a landfill, rubble fill, surface mine or Class 3 fill or is a designated brownfield, set distances from residential uses, regional parks and places of worship, and a Community Benefits Agreement. It would make sites under 200 acres subject to detailed site plan approval and keep sites over 200 acres exempt from it.

What this does not establish

  • A committee hold is not a recorded withdrawal or a final vote, so this record keeps the bill as a proposal.
  • The bill's table of permitted zones did not extract cleanly from the PDF, so zones are described from its title and from the section naming the AR, RE and RR zones.
  • The county history records that M-NCPPC technical staff opposed the proposal and the Planning Board took no position.

Unresolved questions

  • Whether the committee takes the bill up again.

Relationships

Supersession means a later instrument replaces the earlier legal effect. Repeal links identify the repeal instrument and the measure it ends. A later implementation or related letter is not treated as a replacement unless the record says so.
