Scope

P.L.2024, c.49, the "Next New Jersey Program Act" (C.34:1B-394 to 34:1B-402), lets the Economic Development Authority award tax credits to an eligible business that is primarily engaged in the artificial intelligence industry or the large-scale artificial intelligence data center industry and meets the act's investment and job requirements. Summary

New Jersey P.L.2024, c.49, approved on 25 July 2024 and effective immediately, created the Next New Jersey Program, under which the Economic Development Authority may award tax credits to businesses primarily engaged in artificial intelligence or in the large-scale artificial intelligence data center industry that meet capital investment and job thresholds. P.L.2026, c.77 later cut the credits made available for the program to $250 million; that amendment is recorded separately and did not repeal the program.

What this does not establish

  • The saved chapter-law page contains character-encoding artifacts; quotes avoid those characters.
  • Eligibility turns on a business being primarily engaged in AI or large-scale AI data center activity; the act does not cover every data center.
  • Award counts and approved projects were not checked.

Unresolved questions

  • How much of the reduced $250 million allocation has been awarded was not checked.

Relationships

Supersession means a later instrument replaces the earlier legal effect. Repeal links identify the repeal instrument and the measure it ends. A later implementation or related letter is not treated as a replacement unless the record says so.
