Summary

Charlotte's City Council approved a 150-day moratorium starting 8 June 2026 on accepting, processing and approving applications for new telecommunications and data storage facilities, the zoning use that includes data centers, in the city and its extraterritorial jurisdiction. It ends no later than 5 November 2026, or earlier if the council adopts new data center rules. The council has set a 12 October 2026 public hearing on extending it; that proposal is separate and has not been adopted.

What this does not establish

  • The terms come from the council action item text and the Legistar vote history; the signed ordinance document was not opened.
  • The moratorium does not apply to projects exempt under N.C.G.S. 160D-107(c) and does not close existing facilities.
  • The proposed extension (public hearing 12 October 2026) is not part of this record.

Unresolved questions

  • Whether the council extends the moratorium after the 12 October 2026 hearing.

Relationships

Supersession means a later instrument replaces the earlier legal effect. Repeal links identify the repeal instrument and the measure it ends. A later implementation or related letter is not treated as a replacement unless the record says so.

  • No related action is recorded.
