Provider notes
Water. Roughly 10,000 gallons per day, using closed-loop cooling.
Community. WBRC (13 Aug 2026) reports "Hundreds pack Fairfield town hall over proposed data center inside former Walmart", with residents raising health risks, rising utility bills and community benefit. Patmos's founder answered noise concerns by saying "you'll hear the equivalent of a weed wacker" when generators run and that operations would be "quieter than the Walmart"; Patmos said "the only environmental impact is water use." Resident Bessie Bell questioned whether the project would help Fairfield's development. …
These reviews flag conflicting scope, inconsistent source text or support that has not been established. A withheld value may appear in the explanation, but is not displayed as an established field. The upstream row remains attributed under Sources.
- Announced investment: Row note expressly says investment was not disclosed and deliberately omitted.
- Provider energy note: New 20/45 MW figures reintroduce the expressly unverified capacity claim.
- Cooling: Row context identifies water use but does not support a cooling type.
- Reported water use: Row context does not support the asserted 10,000-gallon-per-day measure.
What the source record says
Retrofit of a former Walmart Supercenter in Fairfield into a colocation data center. WBRC states: "Patmos would bring around 50 long-term jobs, plus roughly 120 construction workers during the build" and "If approved, construction could start in September, with the first phase completed by January or February 2027 and a larger expansion planned for 2028." CAPACITY AND INVESTMENT DELIBERATELY OMITTED — WBRC explicitly does not disclose either; an aggregator (servercountry.org) lists a "Fairfield Colocation Data Center" at 45 MW, which is NOT verified here and not cited. COORDINATES ARE THE FAIRFIELD MUNICIPAL CENTROID, not the building: the source identifies the site only as "the former Walmart Supercenter", no street address, and an Overpass query over the Fairfield bounding box returned no Walmart-named or former-retail building in OSM. Tighten this before mapping. STATUS is "proposed" — construction was conditional on approval as of 13 Aug 2026; if the September 2026 groundbreaking happened, this should move to under_construction, which is worth re-checking since that date has now passed. This is a genuinely distinct site from qts-marvel-bessemer-al (different operator, different city) though both sit in the same Birmingham-west corridor.
Any MW value is reproduced as source-reported context. Its measurement boundary is not established consistently enough for comparison. Unknown is not zero.
