Provider notes
Community. No opposition or support documented in coverage found -- the project failed on grid-interconnection economics before reaching a public siting fight. Then-town-manager Sean Adkins actively worked with the developer to try to land the project.
What the source record says
No developer name, specific parcel, or exact site address was named in any source found -- location is therefore a St. Albans city-boundary centroid (OSM relation 199108, 'Saint Albans City, Franklin County, Vermont'), not a parcel-level pin; disclosed here per this wave's contract since no street address exists to pair it with. capacityMw and jobs are deliberately left as unstructured fields (in statusHistory notes only) rather than forced into the schema's single-value capacityMw/jobs objects, because the two capacity scenarios (8-12MW vs 50MW) were alternatives under discussion, not a single settled plan, and the job estimates applied only to the larger, never-selected option. Sean Adkins subsequently became executive director of the Rutland Development Authority and has expressed continued interest in attracting a similar project to Rutland -- a possible future lead, not yet independently verified as an active proposal.
Any MW value is reproduced as source-reported context. Its measurement boundary is not established consistently enough for comparison. Unknown is not zero.
Status history supplied by the source
- 2025 · source-reported proposed
First known attempt to bring a large-scale data center to Vermont. Two capacity scenarios were discussed: 8-12MW or 50MW; the larger option was projected at approximately 1,000 temporary construction jobs and 20 permanent jobs.
- 2026-02 · source-reported cancelled
"It was going to cost just too much money to build a substation that would have allowed the project to move forward" -- Sean Adkins, then St. Albans town manager, on why the developer withdrew: connecting to the grid would have required a new substation costing roughly $30 million.
