Provider notes
Energy. Proposal pairs on-site solar generation and battery storage covering 'a substantial portion' of demand with a utility connection; the developer's stated objective is to offset annual grid purchases with on-site renewable generation.
Water. Proposed closed-loop system: ~30,300 gallon initial fill, ~15,300 gallons/year (~42 gal/day) makeup water. No water source had been identified or validated as of Aug 2026.
Community. Residents organized as 'Project Consequences'; the Sierra County Commission unanimously converted a resolution into an 18-month data center moratorium on July 21, 2026. No lease, sublease, construction or development agreement has been executed. On 2026-09-03 NM State Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard formally rejected the Aetherion sublease and ruled the county moratorium applies to Spaceport America despite it being state trust land — “Simply put, I will not be approving any data centers, including the proposed Aetherion sublease at Spaceport America” (see source 4). …
What the source record says
Sited on state trust land inside Spaceport America's 18,000-acre lease outside Truth or Consequences. Current plan would occupy 21 acres within the horizontal launch area, possibly plus 30 additional acres. Spaceport America says discussions with Green Data have been ongoing since 2021 and that the project 'is not a relocation of the Socorro proposal'; only 'limited planning agreements' are in effect. Capacity has not been disclosed.
Any MW value is reproduced as source-reported context. Its measurement boundary is not established consistently enough for comparison. Unknown is not zero.
Status history supplied by the source
- 2026-07-20 · source-reported proposed
Public records surfaced a State Land Office sublease application, signed by Spaceport America director Scott McLaughlin in February 2026, to rent land to Green Data developer Aetherion Inc. for $176,400 annually; the application remains under review by the Commissioner of Public Lands.
- 2026-09-03 · source-reported cancelled
The NM State Land Office rejected the Aetherion/Green Data sublease proposal at Spaceport America on 2026-09-03, and Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard ruled Sierra County's 2026-07-21 data-center moratorium applies to Spaceport activity despite it sitting on state trust land. Spaceport's executive director Scott McLaughlin said the facility will honor the decision. The developer (Jason Bak) did not respond to comment and left the door open to a future proposal once moratoria expire, but this specific sublease proposal is dead as of this report.
