Summary

The Town of Orangetown posted Local Law No. 5 of 2026 as adopted on 25 August 2026, the date of the Town Board's public hearing on it. The local law suspends the acceptance, processing and approval of applications and permits for battery energy storage systems and data storage facilities for 180 days from its effective date, with a possible 180-day renewal by resolution. Data storage facility applications submitted before 1 July 2026 may proceed. The law takes effect on adoption and filing with the Secretary of State; the filing date is not printed.

What this does not establish

  • The adoption date is taken from the town page title for the posted local law; the local law text itself shows the number but no adoption date.
  • The filing date with the Secretary of State is not printed, so effect and the end of the 180 days are not confirmed.
  • The moratorium also covers battery energy storage systems, which are not data centers.

Unresolved questions

  • When Local Law No. 5 of 2026 was filed and took effect, and whether the Town Board renewed it.

Relationships

Supersession means a later instrument replaces the earlier legal effect. Repeal links identify the repeal instrument and the measure it ends. A later implementation or related letter is not treated as a replacement unless the record says so.

  • No related action is recorded.
