Answer
Verdict on the wording above: Contradicted as of Releases read 1 November 2026 Reliable evidence conflicts with the claim as stated (unit, relationship, status or fact). It does not prove bad faith. How verdicts work →
- Who stated it
- Said by Mississippi Development Authority (Executive Director) · government record in Amazon continues Mississippi expansion, announcing plans to invest a total of $25 billion across the Magnolia State · 9 April 2026 →
- What the evidence establishes
- No. The same 9 April 2026 Governor's release says $12 billion of the $25 billion was announced that day as planned projects, describes $25 billion as Amazon's total planned investment, and says the company expects to create more than 2,000 jobs. The 2024 Madison County figures were also announced as planned. These are commitments, not completed investment or jobs filled.
- Biggest limitation
- How much Amazon has actually spent in Mississippi and how many direct jobs are filled. Any state incentive agreement terms for these projects were not read.
- Checked
- 1 November 2026 · Next review: MDA or Major Economic Impact Authority report of capital investment made and jobs created by Amazon in Mississippi
Evidence
What the evidence supports
The Governor's release of 9 April 2026 opens by saying Amazon 'today announced plans to invest an additional $12 billion', made up of a planned $11 billion Madison County expansion that 'will create 700 new jobs' and a new planned $1 billion Clinton project that 'will create 100 jobs'. It then says 'Amazon's total planned capital investment in the state is $25 billion, and the company expects to create more than 2,000 jobs', and its subheading reads '$25 billion investment and 2,000 jobs expected'. The Mississippi Development Authority's January 2024 release described the original Madison County project as a 'planned $10 billion corporate investment' that 'will create at least 1,000' jobs. The quoted statement that Amazon 'has invested $25 billion and created 2,000' jobs conflicts with the release's own description of at least $12 billion and 800 jobs as newly announced plans.
Still unknown
How much Amazon has actually spent in Mississippi and how many direct jobs are filled. Any state incentive agreement terms for these projects were not read.
