Summary

At their 2 June 2026 business meeting, the Boulder County Commissioners unanimously put in place a temporary moratorium, effective that day, on accepting planning applications for data centers and detention centers in unincorporated Boulder County. The county says the moratorium lasts six months (its June release says up to six months) while staff prepare Land Use Code amendments; it prints no calendar end date. It is a temporary pause on applications, not a permanent prohibition, and it does not apply inside incorporated cities.

What this does not establish

  • The evidence is the county's 15 June 2026 news release and its Land Use Code amendment page for docket DC-26-0003. The resolution or other instrument text and its number were not opened.
  • The county scheduled a public hearing on the moratorium for 2 July 2026; the outcome of that hearing, and whether it changed the terms, is not shown.
  • The stored end date, 2 December 2026, is computed from the six-month term; the county prints no calendar end date, and the June release describes the term as up to six months.
  • The moratorium also covers detention centers, which are not data centers.
  • Proposed permanent Land Use Code amendments for data centers (docket DC-26-0003) are a separate, pending measure and are not recorded here.

Unresolved questions

  • What the 2 July 2026 public hearing on the moratorium decided.
  • Whether the commissioners extend or end the moratorium, or adopt the Land Use Code amendments, before the six-month term runs.

Relationships

Supersession means a later instrument replaces the earlier legal effect. Repeal links identify the repeal instrument and the measure it ends. A later implementation or related letter is not treated as a replacement unless the record says so.

  • No related action is recorded.
